This course introduces and applies foundational concepts in logic and logical reasoning to common business and organizational examples. It takes the learner step-by-step through the key concepts and skills required for defensible arguments. 

The course includes four modules and covers the following:

  • Socratic Questioning & Skepticism: Learn systematic questioning techniques to challenge business assumptions and uncover hidden risks in strategic decisions
  • Argument Structure & Analysis: Learn to identify premises and conclusions, and convert complex business proposals into clear, analyzable arguments
  • Deductive Reasoning: Apply valid argument forms for guaranteed conclusions in policy decisions and operational procedures
    Inductive Reasoning: Strengthen probability-based decisions through improved sampling, data analysis, and bias avoidance in market research and forecasting
  • Abductive Reasoning: Determine "best explanations" when diagnosing operational problems, analyzing competitive behavior, or investigating business outcomes
  • Fallacy Detection: Identify and counter fallacies that are commonly used to make weak arguments appear strong, and threaten to compromise decision-making
  • Necessary vs. Sufficient Conditions: Distinguish between requirements and guarantees that can assist with strategic planning, resource allocation, and performance metrics
