In ballroom dance, as in business, pivots are breathtaking and beautiful. They can also be a source of anxiety and distress. Timing, balance, position – everything must align perfectly. Done well, they’re seamless. Poorly? It’s awkward and may even put the dancers at greater risk of injury, not to mention damage to reputation.

Here’s a little-known fact that ties relevance back to leaders and/or strategists. On their own, a dancer may be able to pivot perfectly, because it’s easier to compensate for small errors. In tandem, it’s much harder to hide or recover from errors. Effective partnering is essential. This holds true for business and strategy; there’s no such thing as a solo pivot. Leaders, it’s up to you to learn and lead in the art of adaptability.
